Though she was young when the issues surrounding the former Jarl and the Varg family passed, she still remembers the events relatively clearly. She'd always been in favor of the Vargs, but it was something that she couldn't have expressed; even to her own family. When she was a mere thirteen years of age she learned that the eldest Varg boy had challenged their Jarl to a fight, and had come out victorious. She still recalls silently celebrating his victory over the old man, and to this day has not experienced a moment of regret for experiencing that small moment of joy. To her mind Stellan has made a far better Jarl than Ulgar ever dreamed of being.[break][break]
Sigrid was a mere fifteen years of age when she was allowed to join her first battle. Though she was excited by the prospect of fighting, she knew that it would be nothing like the training sessions she had undergone for a good majority of her life at that point. There was a large difference between besting an opponent in a spar, and shedding the blood of another human being in battle. Still, despite that mental acknowledgement, she wasn't prepared for the toll that taking another person's life would have on her mental and physical state of being. When she first felt the sword she had trained with so long slide so effortlessly into the stomach of her enemy it was frightening to her.[break][break]
She ended up losing the contents of her stomach on the battle field that day, but despite this fact and the way she felt about killing, her victories were celebrated when she returned home. For a long time afterward she warred with herself over the way she felt, believing that it made her less of a Viking than those who seemed so completely unaffected by it. Eventually she broke down and told her mother who, in a rare show of compassion and emotion, threw her arms around her daughter and actually let out a sob. Her mother informed her that she had been worried that her daughter was unphased by killing another person, and assured her that it was perfectly natural to be bothered by it; Viking or not.[break][break]
From that night forward, Sigrid found a new relationship between herself and her mother. The two grew much closer than they had been for the majority of Sigrid's life, and their bond became one of not just mother and daughter, but of companions on the battle field. Any time Sigrid was pulled away from her home to fight, she found her mother by her side. In many ways she found that she enjoyed her mother's presence, and not just because it was nice to have a familiar face around. On the battle field the two of them constantly looked out for one another, and Sigrid actually probably saved her own mother's ass as many times as her mother saved her's.[break][break]
At the age of seventeen, Sigrid met an outsider who wasn't an enemy for the first time. Having never had the urge to travel, nor the urge to be in on the business of her Jarl, she'd never had the chance to meet one before the appearance of Idris Vakath in Asgard. When Stellan agreed to show the young prince hospitality, Sigrid couldn't avoid meeting him for long, especially when he began to show an interest in the shield maidens of Asgard. While he might have come from a kingdom that held female warriors, the shield maidens of Asgard would definitely have been of interest to an outsider.[break][break]
Upon meeting the young prince, Sigrid decided that he was an honorable enough person for her to accept. The two exchanged tales of their victories on the battle field, and when he made the suggestion that she returned to Vakath with him to show the warrior women of his kingdom how to be fierce; though she believed that part to be in jest, she only hesitated briefly over the idea. It was only when Stellan pulled her aside later that evening and asked her about her interactions with the foreign Prince that she made up her mind about returning to Vakath with him. When her Jarl learned of the offer he decided to take the opportunity to have someone inside the kingdom to find out more about their southern neighbors.[break][break]
For two years now, Sigrid has lived in the kingdom of Vakath, and while she finds that it is a nice enough place, part of her longs to return to Asgard. Vakath's warrior women have nothing on the shield maidens that she befriended throughout her years of training and fighting. Not to mention the fact that even after two years she tends to stand out in the kingdom like a sore thumb. While she might not enjoy the constant stares and whispers, she's not the type to conform to their standards simply to make them happy.

[attr="class","classictitle3"]APPEARANCE
Topping the charts at five feet, eleven inches, Sigrid is a giant amongst women. In terms of build she is long and lean, possessing just enough muscle to make people question who or what she is. Her long blond hair falls in natural waves past her shoulders, but she keeps the right side of her head mostly shaven for personal reasons. Like most others from the northern most territories of Nydderan, Sigrid's eyes are usually lined with dark circles to prevent snow blindness and the blinding shines from weapons and shields on the battlefield. She is rarely seen wearing clothes that are anything other than a tunic and trousers, except in cases where she sports armor, a cloak, or the fur of an animal she has slain.[break][break][attr="class","classictitle3"]PERSONALITY
In an every day situation Sigrid tends to be the quiet one in the corner observing others rather than a part of the 'action.' This is largely in part due to the fact that she leans toward the introverted side of the personality spectrum. She is not generally the center of attention, does not crave being it, and actually would rather turn the spotlight on someone else; even when she has done things that earn it for her. That said she's almost an entirely different person when it comes to battle. To Sigrid battle is life; it's the way she was raised, and as a shield maiden of Asgard she knew there was little higher acclaim for someone like her. On the battle field she is a force to be reckoned with, and not just in terms of the might of her sword. Sigrid has a very tactical mind that automatically assesses every situation she finds herself in and finds the best way out or through. (The same can be said whether she's on the battle field or in a social setting.)[break][break]
[attr="class","classictitle3"]HISTORY
Born as the only child to Helle and Gulbrand Lang, Sigrid was destined to be a warrior from the time she was conceived, with a well respected shield maiden as a mother, and a renown warrior as a father. She was raised like every other viking; being taught all of the important things to survive and keep a community like theirs thriving, and she was also trained to fight. Both of her parents were determined to see her become a shield maiden, and when she found that she actually enjoyed the training, she too picked up on that determination.[break][break]Though she was young when the issues surrounding the former Jarl and the Varg family passed, she still remembers the events relatively clearly.
